Fawn squeezed his hand and Horace was able to manage a bit of a smile before turning his face down and letting her hand fall from his. Standing around would do no good. He examined his chest once more before taking a step out of the cave. "Come on. We are going to need to find some place other than the cave to sleep." Horace wouldn't speak for Fawn, but he was tired. Dog tired. He grabbed her blue sweater to move her along slowly out of the cave, observing whether or not she would be able to walk effectively. Fawn's leg was injured and Horace didn't know what to do. He knew of some herbs that could heal it but they weren't available to him. Everything he'd brought to Hawaii was in the now exploded jeep. Horace hadn't even rented a hotel, just the car. It didn't matter now though. Maybe someday it would but right now Horace was going to focus on survival. "Maybe if we just take it slow rather than running and screaming..." He trailed off. His feet carried him over the sand slowly, letting Fawn set the hobbling pace.
Smoke was filling the air more than fire and explosions now, which Horace was grateful for. The silver disc was up much higher but it still sat above the city. His blue eyes studied it for a couple seconds as they moved across the sand. It seemed completely smooth, but how could that be? Perhaps it was a government weapon after all. Why would it attack Hawaii? Malfunctioning tech was the only explanation Horace could rationally come up with. There was more than one though and that made him lean more towards aliens. Turning his attention back to keeping Fawn on her feet, he gazed forward and sighed in relief. Further up the beach Horace could see a building built up off the sand like a pier in the water. "Fawn. I think that is a surf shop or a cafe up there. We should be good to stay and hide for at least a couple of hours if we can get there unnoticed." Feeling a bit impatient to be out of sight, Horace put his arm under Fawn's and lifted her a little. He could carry her if necessary but he would definitely rather not. For one he hardly knew the girl and besides that he would probably collapse before making it very far.

Fawn nodded as Horace suggested they leave the cave and, as he pulled on her sweater, she carefully and painfully made her way across the sand. Her arm latched onto his until she balanced herself, the small dog seemingly feeling an attachment to the pair as it scuttled along beside her.
Clouding smoke hurdled around and above them, creating a visible shelter for them before they reached their destination that Fawn had to squint through the fog to see. A small building along a pier that Horace was pointing to, murmuring suggestions of taking shelter there.
She nodded again, wincing and scrunching up her face at the pain of walking on her injured leg - yet, she knew there was no use of staying put, out in the open, despite the galloping billows of smoke. The wind was a powerful force that could easily blow such fog away.
Suddenly, Fawn felt Horace's arm slip under hers, helping her along and she showed him a painful smile as they hobbled together along the sand that burnt her feet. Once they had reached the pier, eventually, the feel of wood along the soles of her feet was a pleasant change, the building much clearer and nearer to her sight.
As she had predicted, a breeze flickered along the smoke above them in little swirls, clearing the air above them as Fawn bit her lip and limped faster towards the building despite the pain shrieking through her leg with every step. All that comforted her then was that, convincing herself, she would be safe in that haven of a beach building, and that Fawn wasn't alone in this swirling circle of tragedy; the small dog whimpering little barks beside her and Horace to her right, who had stuck with her since this had all began.
Placing her hand on the handle and her other palm along the wood, Fawn pushed the door open with a creak, hoping that nothing had been following them as she slowly crept inside.

Fawn wealky opened the door and Horace winced as it creaked. It would be impractical to think that an aircraft that far away would hear a creak though. He eased past Fawn and entered the building, gazing around in the smoke filled and dusty atmosphere. It appeared no one was here, so Horace let his shoulders sag a little. "Looks like no one is around." He sighed. Part of Horace had been hoping to find someone. The thought of there being so many dead outside made him feel sick to his stomach. He swayed a little to the side and then shook his head. Horace knew he would pass out sooner or later if he continued moving about on his feet. His blue eyes studied the building for a moment.
There was a counter running along the left side, behind it there was some odds and ends and a couple surfboards. The boards piqued his interest but Horace shook it off and continued surveying his surroundings. The counter ran along the length of the wall almost completely. Down near the end Horace could see a door. He guessed there would be a closet or some sort of storage around there. Unfortunately there wasn't any bedding around as far as Horace could see. Oh well. I've slept on hardwood before. He glanced at Fawn a little guiltily before leaning on the counter and sagging down until he was sitting. Exhaling a half groan half sigh, he blinked at Fawn for a moment before closing his eyes. The adrenaline had worn off now and all Horace could feel was tired. No fear or apprehension. Just a small bit of pain and a lot of tired. He was asleep in seconds, probably snoring or something embarrassing.

Fawn's eyes glanced around the abandoned cafe before resting her eyes on Horace who seemed to have fallen asleep. She blinked, thankful that they had some form of shelter, but she couldn't go to sleep just yet. Her stomach rumbled with hunger, moaning and groaning for something to fill it. Fawn walked into the cafe, the door falling behind her, slamming gently against it's frame - she hoped that wasn't too loud - and gently padded her feet across the wooden floor.
She didn't want to wake up Horace after all he had done for her; they had stuck together so far in this war of the land against the sky. She couldn't abandon - didn't want to abandon - him or disturb his well earned sleep.
Her body reached a door that engraved a sign saying, "Staff Only." Her eyes furrowed before opening the door with ease and clicking on a weak light. Metal gleamed the area, curving around work surfaces and lining the floors. A kitchen.
Of course a cafe would have a kitchen.
At first, Fawn felt bad for wanting to steal food from this establishment, but her stomach grumbled with one of her steps and she knew she had to indulge. Opening the silver fridge, cold metal freezing against her fingers, Fawn's eyes glanced inside. There was a lack of food inside the fridge. Obviously those that had fled the cafe had taken most of the food for themselves, for survival. She sighed but noticed a long baguette, wrapped in clingfilm and stuffed with salad. It had already been bitten into but Fawn didn't much care. Her eyes also caught the sight of a piece of carrot cake just crammed at the back of the fridge. Taking both foods, she pushed the fridge door with her back and returned back into the room where Horace was, forgetting to switch the flickering light back off.
Slowly, she sat beside him, a meter away perhaps, listening to the soft sounds of his breathing. Fawn tore off the clingfilm from the half eaten baguette and took a bite. Mmm, it tasted good. This cafe must have done well before the attack. Their food was good.
Fawn had eaten half of it when the guilt kicked in. Horace needed food too. He was probably as weak, even weaker, then she had been. Wrapping the remainder of the baguette in the clingfilm, she placed it at Horace's side before her finger slipped into the icing of the carrot cake, tasting the sweetness, before she slid the plate over to Horace's sleeping form. At least, when he woke up, he could have a decent breakfast.
Satisfied that her stomach was full enough, Fawn flickered her eyes closed before curling up on the cold floor and letting herself fall asleep.

(Ugh I'm so sorry. I have totally lost all inspiration for everything besides longboarding lately it seems. Heres what I got for now. :/)
Horace's eyes opened slowly. It was a heavy, painful kind of slowness that left him blinking even slower as he tried to focus. His brain didn't want to remember where he was or what had happened the prior day; but of course it did, and of course his eyes focused quicker than they felt they should have. It didn't take him long to notice Fawn. He could kind of feel that there was a person nearby before his eyes fell on her. Horace might have watched her sleep for a couple of moments, but he noticed the food sitting around and that distracted him well enough.
After eating quickly he stood and stretched. Even here the smell of burning was ever present. Horace had half expected it to disperse in the night, but it hadn't. He didn't hear any explosions in the distance and the ground wasn't shaking so all in all he felt kind of safe. The cafe was cozy, in a lonely empty dead sort of way. His blue eyes took it all in as he finished stretching. Horace had downed the sandwich type thing pretty quickly, but he hated carrot cake so he left it. Maybe Fawn would eat it when she woke.
The dog was sleeping near Fawn. Horace didn't remember seeing it before he'd went to sleep but he was probably too tired to notice. The animal seemed to be faring well. Though it was evident in its tired posture that even creatures incapable of complex thought could feel tragedy in the air. Sighing, he contented himself with sitting on the counter. Horace fiddled with a few things but he didn't want to make too much noise and wake Fawn before she'd rested. He had no idea when she had finally fallen asleep and there seemed to be no danger present.
