Nayan lay relaxed on the soft earth, gazing up at the stars as the moon swept the sun away. His back ached from the walking - or, more like fleeing - he'd been doing for days now. The image of his horse Ember being slaughtered and fed to the dogs was still fresh in his mind even if it was already a week past. They had taken his horse, his wagon with all his wares, and now he had nothing. Not even a change of clothes.

He groaned, leaning his head back against the dirty grass and ran fingers through his dark brown hair that stuck to his forehead from sweat. His parents were right about how cruel humans were - even he was a human and he still despised others. Yes, he would sell to them and make a profit, but when it came to trust? It was already out the window.

They had accused him of illegally trading. The authorities in the city he'd just fled from. He didn't even know the name of it, just heard that the market was flourishing. And so, Nayan had packed up his wagon filled to the rim with wares he'd traded and found (he'd never say stolen), taken Ember and headed for this city rich with markets.

Before he'd even got one sale, the guards or whoever they were, came and stole away his horse and wagon and made him watch as Ember's head was sliced. Her big eyes were looking to him in fear in the hands of these unknown men. She wasn't any good for them. That's how Nayan got her in the first place; because some inn keeper didn't want her any more and so he traded with Nayan. Nayan loved her like no one else.

She had been unfairly killed and he'd barely escaped that city alive.

The air was becoming dusky and moist but Nayan was too tired to get up and find a shade to rest under. He would just rest here in the middle of no where with no tent or anything, and if he was mauled to pieces during the night then so be it. It was better then being without things to sell and without his best friend. He no longer had a way of income. How was he going to go about finding stuff to sell without stealing?

Nayan blinked through the mist that was crawling in and slid an arm behind his head before slowly closing his eyes and taking a deep, sore breath before drifting off into a restless sleep.
